Laura Loomer Says Media Are ‘Obsessed’ With Her Amid Racism Claims

Far-right activist Laura Loomer said the media are “obsessed” with her amid reporting on the backlash to her recent statements and her relationship with Donald Trump.
Loomer, a fervent Trump supporter, has received widespread condemnation, including from the former president’s running mate JD Vance and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, another Trump loyalist, for saying that White House “will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center” if Kamala Harris, who is of Indian heritage, wins the presidential election.
Loomer has been attracting media attention after she accompanied Trump to two 9/11 memorial events and was seen accompanying him on a flight to the ABC presidential debate.
Newsweek has contacted Loomer, via a press contact form outside of normal working hours, for further comment.
The former president has called her a “free spirit” who “speaks very positively of the campaign” but he has also said that she “doesn’t work for the campaign” and is a “private citizen.”
“I disagree with the statements she made but, like the many millions of people who support me, she is tired of watching the Radical Left Marxists and Fascists violently attack and smear me,” he posted on Truth Social last week.
Loomer responded to some of the coverage on Friday, when she wrote on X: “The media is obsessed with me. It’s kind of entertaining to see how triggered they are by my existence.
“People like me because I am original, easy going, loyal and trustworthy. Everything the media isn’t.”
She went on: “And, you’ll never hear me ask for anything. I do my own thing and I do a better job than most in the media, so they envy me.
“It’s why they can’t keep my name out of their mouth. It’s an obsession they have with not being able to control someone who just doesn’t care about any of them. I care about very few things, to be honest.”
She posted this message with a screengrab of an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal entitled: “Donald Trump and Loomer Tunes.”
The piece criticizes Trump for “hanging with the 9/11 conspiracist,” referring to Loomer’s previous claims that 9/11 was an “inside job.”
The editoial board wrote that “others close to Mr. Trump say he is listening to Ms. Loomer’s advice,” adding: “People in the Trump campaign are trying to get her out of the former President’s entourage, to no avail.”
Newsweek has contacted Trump’s team, via email outside of normal working hours, for a response to this claim.
Vance, whose wife Usha Vance is Indian American, has also put distance between her and their campaign.
When asked about her “curry” comment in a recent appearance on NBC News’ Meet the Press, he repeated that Loomer “is not affiliated with the Trump campaign.”
He said: “Do I agree with what Laura Loomer said about Kamala Harris? No, I don’t. I also don’t think it’s an issue of national import. Is Laura Loomer running for president? No. Kamala Harris is running for president…Whether you’re eating curry at your dinner table or fried chicken, things have gotten more expensive thanks to her policies. Let’s talk about the person running for president of the United States and not a social media personality who supports Donald Trump.”
